Van der Valk gets pluggable lighting installations

Techval and Isolectra are trusted partners in pluggable electrical installation. In recent years, the companies have carried out and delivered various pluggable projects, specifically hotels, such as Van der Valk Hotel Amsterdam-Amstel and Van der Valk Hotel Zaltbommel-A2. Pluggable lighting installations are currently being prepared for the meeting rooms of Van der Valk Hotel Nuland Den Bosch, including the restaurant, the break-out room and the conference rooms. The partners are currently assessing whether the thirty new hotel rooms on the third and fourth floors can be designed with 100% pluggable electrical installation.
Opting for a plug-in installation is a logical choice, according to Remco Nederkoorn, Project Manager at Techval. “Pluggable electrical installation is practical, reduces failure costs and saves time in the implementation phase. Towards completion, we are invariably faced with a peak in workload, with large numbers of fixtures and sockets having to be fitted and finished. By installing a pluggable system, this peak is considerably flattened. Additionally, considerable savings are made in labour and costs, the item that is most decisive in projects today. What’s more, the savings in labour costs far outweigh the extra cost of a pluggable electrical installation.”
Plug & Play
“Isolectra is a proactive partner in the design and engineering of our projects. Additionally, the market leader is continually exploring new possibilities for making pluggable electrical installations even simpler and more widely applicable”, says Nederkoorn. “We appreciate that effort. In the preparation phase, we invested a lot of time in the design of the installations and in how the fixtures should be connected so that they can be switched in the correct fuses later on. This time is more than recouped during implementation. This is because the installations can be fitted much more easily and quickly. In a construction chain following the building contractor, we install the pluggable cabling from the distributors to the walls and ceilings so that, just before completion, we only need to join the connecting cables to the fixtures.” Wieland Gst18i5 cable plug (pastel blue).
KNX connector
Isolectra supervised and checked Techval’s design: are the correct products used in the proper places? And did they also look at possible new solutions? “The lighting supplier equips all fixtures with the appropriate Wieland connection”, explains Marcel Backx, Key Account Manager at Isolectra. “Because in this project the lighting is linked, programmed and controlled with KNX, Techval is also installing a KNX link. In addition, the correct cable quantities and lengths are submitted to the technical wholesaler, on the basis of which a logistics schedule is planned.” Nederkoorn: “In the meeting rooms, this is less of an issue, as we are dealing with largely the same lengths. That is why Rexel wholesaler supplies the products in large quantities. However, if the new hotel rooms are also to be equipped with pluggable electrical systems, then pluggable kits will be delivered per room. A decision on this will be made in the coming weeks. There is a good chance that it will be possible to find a solution. After all, the construction method – with suspended ceilings and metal stud walls – lends itself perfectly to this approach.”
