Wieland has tested and certified its robust RST20® pluggable installation system for use in concrete. This means the RST20® pluggable connection can be cast in concrete! What type of cable does that require?

It goes without saying that a concrete cable has to be suitable for casting in concrete. This means the manufacturer must have tested this application and officially confirmed it in the data sheets. Among other things, the cable must be able to withstand the chemicals in concrete as well as the vibrations and other mechanical forces that occur. Such cables did not exist before, so Isolectra collaborated with Wieland on their development to make it possible to use pluggable installation solutions in concrete.

When choosing the right cable, you have to consider the exterior conditions and the legal fire-resistance properties. When it comes to pluggable installation in concrete, these conditions and requirements can be divided into two groups:

Prefab
Controlled conditions for prefab concrete elements whereby the RST® concrete cables are placed in a mould in a factory environment and fully cast in prefab concrete elements. In this case, a concrete-resistant installation cable rated to withstand normal mechanical loads is sufficient. As the cable is fully immersed in concrete and therefore not exposed to the interior or exterior atmosphere, fire class Eca is enough. We have developed the concrete-resistant black RST20i3® H05VV-F Eca prefab concrete cables for this application. Available in 3G2.5.

Structural concrete
When used in structural concrete, cables are installed at the construction site. This means difficult conditions, as the cables may be stepped on and they are installed in unpredictable weather and under uncontrolled circumstances. It is also possible that the cables are not entirely immersed in concrete, which means they have to meet the fire-safety requirements for cables exposed to interior atmosphere: according the building decree, this usually requires fire class Dca s2 in normal spaces. We have developed the grey RST20i3® 07XV-F Dca s2 structural concrete cables for this application. Available in RST20i3® 3G2.5 for 230V and RST20i3® 3x2.5 for switches, as well as RST25i5® 5G2.5.
