Wieland Flat cable system; a new application for an old concept
The need for charging stations for electric vehicles represents a new development in the market. The new podis® 5G16 flat cable turns out to be the ideal solution for supplying power to these charging stations.
The need for charging stations is growing
Faced with a growing need for charging stations, installation technicians are kept busy with connecting charging units. This is definitely a job for an expert. We are not talking about installing a wall outlet, after all.
Installing a charging unit requires quite a bit of careful thought. How will it affect the electrical installation to which it is connected? Adding a single charging station is one thing, but what happens when multiple charging units are needed in one place? This is particularly the case at parking facilities where multiple electric vehicles have to be charged simultaneously. Although stand-alone charging stations are a commonly used solution, a lot of money can be saved by mounted the charging units on the wall where possible. This eliminates the need for a foundation, charging poles and ground cables.
There is a high demand for charging units, especially in public parking structures near movie theatres, shopping centres, restaurants or factories, but also in the parking garages of residential building. As each charging unit requires its own power supply, the costs can rise exponentially.
podis® 5G16 flat cable
Wieland offers the ideal solution for supplying power to virtually any charging unit through the smart application of its well-known yet renewed podis® 5G16 flat cable.
Flat cable systems for buildings are characterised by their flexibility and the relative simplicity of the cabling, as well as the significant amount of time saved during their installation.
The basic installation is affordable, because it only involves the installation of a ribbon cable. No cable duct is needed. The flat cable can simply be mounted against the wall or the ceiling using the available mounting brackets.
Charging units can be installed where needed. These are then connected to the ribbon cable using the special connection module with piercing technology.
The entire system features IP65 protection and is CE and cULus certified.
Easily expandable
If the system has to be expanded in the future, this can be achieved with ease. A new charging unit can be mounted at the desired location and connected to the flat cable at any point using the connection unit with piercing technology. After digitally connecting the charging unit to the other stations, it will be ready for use.
Advantages:
• Power supply for virtually any charging station
• Easy to use
• Fast and easy project planning
• 66% faster installation
• 88% faster expansion
• 66% less material usage
• 30% lower installation costs
