  1. Which products may be called Wieland, GST® or GST18®?
  2. Are connectors made by other manufacturers compatible with Wieland GST18 connectors?

Answer:  No, pluggable electrical installation connectors of other brands are not compatible with Wieland connectors. Connectors of different brands must not be used together. Never join two connectors from different manufacturers.

    Rationale:

    • It is sometimes claimed that pluggable electrical installation systems of different brands are compatible or belong to the same ‘family’. This is NOT true Mixing different brands of pluggable electrical installation connectors in one installation can lead to dangerous situations. That is why the various standards also warn against mixing brands.
    • Installations in the Netherlands must comply with NEN1010. NEN1010 requires compliance with European standards such as NEN-EN IEC61535.
    • NEN-EN-IEC61535 relates to connecting male and female installation connectors in a pluggable electrical installation and states that these must be produced according to the specifications of one manufacturer, and that for certification tests only connectors from one manufacturer may be used. In practice, this means that different brands of pluggable electrical installation connectors may not be used interchangeably.
    • If different brands of installation connectors are used interchangeably, the installation will therefore NOT be NEN1010 compliant.
    • The various suppliers do not have a common set of product specifications and production requirements. A supplier can only provide a guaranteed connection between connectors of its own manufacture. Wieland therefore guarantees (as do a number of other manufacturers) only connections made between Wieland components.
    • The fitter may be held responsible for any damage resulting from the mixed use of different brands of connectors.
