‹ Terug naar overzicht- Which Wieland pluggable electrical connections may be used in chloride-containing environments (swimming pools)?
Answer: Spring-clamp connectors in particular are susceptible to chloride stress corrosion, as they have stainless steel components. These products should not be used in chloride-containing environments such as swimming pools. However, other metals, including copper, can also be affected by chlorides at excessive concentrations. It is therefore always advisable to have installations in such environments inspected periodically. We recommend the use of screw and crimp connectors of the RST range. They do not contain any stainless steel components and, due to the high IP value, they are much less susceptible to degradation by chlorides through condensation.
Rationale:
- In chlorinated environments, chlorides are present in the air. This happens, for example, in chlorinated swimming pools. Stainless steel is sensitive to chloride corrosion. This action triggers chloride stress corrosion and fractures may occur in these metals.
- Spring-clamp connectors in electrical connections are also partly made of stainless steel and also appear to be susceptible to chloride stress corrosion. Spring-clamp connections are widely used in electrical engineering, e.g. in junction boxes, socket outlets, lighting connections, etc.
